SUMMER CROSS COUNTRY (XC) TRAINING INFORMATION

Summer XC training is open to ALL athletes in MS and HS plus incoming 5th graders. We will meet for strength training and running three to four days a week during the summer. We will begin the first week of summer break.

The first day of training is Wednesday, May 29th as that Monday is Memorial Day.
Summer Training Days and Times: Mon, Wed and Fri at Trivium Prep at 6:00 am to 7:30 am.
On Saturday mornings, high school athletes will meet at local trails for runs in the hills. Locations will be determined once we know who is available to run those days.

Athletes who run and log 200 miles over the summer will earn a T-shirt for their efforts. This is a good number of miles to set as a goal for the summer! Run Miles – Earn a T-Shirt!!
Summer training is essential for XC SUCCESS! If you are unsure if you are coming out for the season, you should still complete summer training so you will be ready when the season starts. Summer training is an excellent way to get a feel for what XC is all about and to start building a solid base of mileage for the seasons training.
If you are traveling a lot during the summer and are planning on coming out for XC, you still need to run a base number of miles and log your miles into www.running2win.com. Please let me know if you want to run, but are traveling and can’t make it to our training runs.
Communication is very important for summer training. Whether you are able to meet with us during the weeks of summer, or are out running on your own while on vacations, please communicate with me your plans so we can have a successful summer of preparation for the season.

High School Cross Country (XC) Fall Season Information
Athletes run races at the 5K (3.1) mile distance. Every course is different, running through parks, desert trails etc. Every athlete on the team runs in the race at the same time. The top 5 athletes score points based on the place they receive at the finish.
We compete in the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) Division IV, Section 2. Athletes will compete in races that include athletes from larger schools and Divisions; however they only compete against Division IV athletes for the Sectional and State Championships.
We practice 6 days a week, Mon-Fri from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Trivium Prep and Saturday mornings at 6 am. Most of the meets are on Saturday mornings once competitions begin. The season starts at the beginning of the school year.
Middle School Cross Country (XC) Fall Season Information
Athletes run races approximately 1.5 to 2 miles in length. Every course is different, running through parks, desert trails etc. Every athlete on the team runs in the race at the same time.
There are no bench warmers in XC! The top 5 athletes score points based on the place they receive at the finish.
We compete in the Great Hearts Middle School League and the season starts at the start of the school year. 5th grade through 8th grade athletes are invited.
We practice 3 days a week. Mon, Tues and Thur. Practice will be in the evenings at 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Trivium Prep. Most of the meets will be on Saturday morning.
THERE ARE NO BENCHWARMERS IN XC!!!
